week eleven

It was good to get home after a week away, but also very sad that some of our bestfriends have moved so far away.

Anyway with a resolve to get out of London Rob had arranged for a second viewing of a house on the Oxon, Bucks and Norhtants border - lovely house - Georgian - tho a bit shabby , great gardens and good location for London and motorway to get up North...we did our second viewing on Friday morning, we then went over to visit my coousin and her two little ones. Nelly had a lovely time with Mary and Connie, 4 and almost 2 in age - who loved having Nelly over and played and played with her in the garden. They all had tea together watched In the Night Garden ( the latest kids cult viewing from the maker of Teletubbies! ) had a bath, got into pyjamas and Nelly settled down on the sofa while we ate risotto ...and we then drove home at about 9 30 woith Nelly sleeping in the car

Saturday ...another hot day and Nelly still suffering with hayfever - the poor little thing has had streaming eyes every time we go into the garden or park. It happened again at Lusille's first birthday party ..but it did not stop her enjoying every moment of the party, running around the gardens, and feasting on delightful Madeleines with lavender ( Laure is really a good cook and Lucille's cake was absolutely delicious ....)

week ten........

Little Nelly has been on the move again ....

This time we headed South and South and South - Frank and Kate have moved almost to Lands End! we set off on the Wednesday evening after her bath for a five hour drive to Penzance, Rob did a marathon driving session and we arrived with her fast asleep though no sooner than we got into their house than she was wide awake and running around! We settled down for a glass of wine and cups of tea and she finally had some miracle juice ( Calpol...) and she went to bed.

Thursday was a glorious day and Rob Frank and I pottered around Penzance in the sunshine, then headed for the beach at St Ives! it was packed so we find a smaller beach at Carbis Bay and spent the afternoon making sandcastles with Nelly's stacking cup toys and dipping her toes in the freezing cold Atlantic! we ate Cornish pasties on the beach and then headed off to Mullion Cove to a hotel that I used to go to when we were children....still there with amazing views over the cliffs...but a bxxxxy long way to go from Cheshire in the 70's!

Cornwall is such a nice place in the sunshine ...not so great in the rain with a stomach bug ..! It may have been the pastie or it may have been a bug I picked up from Nelly but I was hugely ill on our first day in Cornwall! dropped a few pounds! became well acquainted with the downstairs loo in Frank's house....Friday Saturday and Sunday were grey, cloudy and raining while the rest of the country was basking in temperatures in line with the continent at the height of summer!

Each time we set out for the beach for a walk ,.... the rain came down - we sheltered in the car and ate ice creams, we sheltered in hotel bars drinking coffee, visited the Tate St Ives where Nelly ran around making people smile and generally tripping over people, sheltered in tea shops resisting Cornish cream teas for the sake of of our hearts....Rob discovered he had a bald tyre so we sat in Kwik Fit while we had two new tyres fitted! On the Saturday evening Rob came donw with the lurgy so with me feeling on form and ready for a glass of wine Kate Frank and I spent the evening in a local pub on a night out!!!!!!!!

We then headed off to Devon..to stay with another London deserter! Simone moved back to Devon and bought a great house overlooking the Estuary, so we headed over there in the rain and mist on Sunday! Bram is now three and played well with baby Nelly, coming into our rooom every morning at 7 to bring her his bunnies!

With cloud hanging over Devon on the Monday morning we decided to take Bram and Nelly to an indoor soft play area which she loved - ball park mini slides that I managed to squeeze dwon with her! After lunch we headed off for a tour of North Devon while Nelly and Bram slept and then the sun came out, so we set off for the beach at Instow not far from Simones and bought Nelly her first bucket and spade...she consumed a lot of sand on her trip to the South West!

Back to London on the Tuesday evening feeling a little sad that our best friends are so far away ..and resolving to take Nelly down again soon ....
